Atlanta Hawks Officially Release A Player

The Atlanta Hawks have waived Tyrese Martin.

Tyrese Martin is coming off his rookie season, where he played in 16 games for the Atlanta Hawks and averaged 1.3 points per contest.

The 24-year-old played his college basketball for UConn and Rhode Island and was initially the 51st pick in the 2022 NBA Draft.

On Friday, the Hawks officially announced that they had waived Martin.

Via The Hawks: "ATLANTA – The Atlanta Hawks have requested waivers on guard Tyrese Martin, the team announced today."

Martin also spent part of last season in the G League and averaged 18.0 points, 9.2 rebounds and 1.9 assists per contest while shooting 50.3% from the field and 36.6% from the three-point range in 23 regular season games (he also appeared in seven Showcase Cup games).

During NBA Summer League, Martin played for the Hawks and averaged 13.2 points per contest which ranked second on the team.

Based on his impressive season in the G League (and Summer League), Martin could be a good pickup for a young team looking to develop talent.

As for the Hawks, they are coming off a year where they were the seventh seed in the Eastern Conference and had a 41-41 record.

They beat the Miami Heat in the play-in tournament but lost to the Boston Celtics in the first round of the NBA playoffs in six games.

In 2021, the Hawks made the Eastern Conference Finals, but they have now lost in the first round in the two following seasons.

That said, they have an extremely talented roster led by superstar Trae Young and 2022 All-Star Dejounte Murray.
