Atlanta Hawks Officially Sign Recent Milwaukee Bucks Player

The Atlanta Hawks have signed Wesley Matthews.

Wesley Matthews has been one of the better role players in the NBA for over a decade.

This past season, the 14-year NBA veteran appeared in 52 games for the Milwaukee Bucks and averaged 3.4 points and 2.2 rebounds per contest while shooting 36.3% from the field and 31.5% from the three-point range.

On Saturday, the Atlanta Hawks officially announced that they had signed the 36-year-old.

The Hawks are a young team, so Matthews is now the oldest player on the roster.

Via The Hawks: "ATLANTA – The Atlanta Hawks have signed guard Wesley Matthews, the team announced today. Per team policy, terms of the agreement were not disclosed."

ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski initially reported that Matthews' deal with the Hawks is for one year.

In addition to the Bucks, Matthews has also played for the Portland Trail Blazers, Dallas Mavericks, Utah Jazz, Los Angeles Lakers, Indiana Pacers and New York Knicks.

He has career averages of 11.7 points, 2.8 rebounds, 1.9 assists and 1.0 steals per contest while shooting 42.0% from the field and 37.6% from the three-point range in 950 regular season games (he has also appeared in 66 NBA playoff games).

Matthews is typically a reliable three-point shooter and has shot 38% or better in seven of his NBA seasons.

Arguably the best year of his career came in 2014 (with the Trail Blazers) when he averaged 16.4 points per contest while shooting 39.3% from the three-point range in 82 games.

As for the Hawks, they are coming off a year where they were the seventh seed in the Eastern Conference and had a 41-41 record.

They defeated the Miami Heat in their first play-in tournament game but lost to the Boston Celtics in the first round of the NBA playoffs (in six games).

The franchise has made the postseason for three straight years.
