Boston Celtics Release Former Duke Star

The Boston Celtics have waived DJ Steward.

DJ Steward is coming off a year where he played in the G League for the Stockton Kings. 

The 22-year-old averaged 12.0 points, 2.7 rebounds and 4.1 assists per contest while shooting 45.8% from the field and 40.9% from the three-point range in 28 regular season games (he also appeared in 17 Showcase Cup games and one G League playoff game).  

This summer, Steward signed a deal with the Boston Celtics, but he has now been waived

The Celtics have also waived D.J. Steward. 

Both players will play for the Maine Celtics in this G League season."

Steward initially went undrafted in 2021 after one season of college basketball playing for the Duke Blue Devils.   

During his one year in college, he averaged 13.0 points, 3.9 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 1.1 steals per contest while shooting 42.6% from the field and 34.1% from the three-point range in 24 games.  

Steward has yet to make his debut in the NBA but has played well over two seasons in the G League.   

His career averages are 13.3 points, 3.2 rebounds and 3.8 assists per contest while shooting 46.0% from the field and 36.8% from the three-point range in 58 regular season games (he has also appeared in 29 Showcase Cup games, one Exhibition game and one G League playoff game).   

As for the Celtics, they will play their first game of the regular season on October 25 when they visit the New York Knicks at Madison Square Garden.
