BREAKING: Chicago Bulls Sign Former NBA 3rd Overall Pick

The Chicago Bulls have signed Derrick Favors to a training camp deal.

Derrick Favors most recently played in the NBA during the 2021-22 season when he was a member of the Oklahoma City Thunder.

That year, the former Georgia Tech star averaged 5.3 points and 4.7 rebounds per contest while shooting 51.6% from the field in 39 games.

Last season, Favors signed a ten-day contract with the Atlanta Hawks, but he did not appear in a game.

On Monday evening, the Chicago Bulls announced that they had signed the 32-year-old to a training camp deal.

Via The Chicago Bulls: "OFFICIAL: We have signed center Derrick Favors and forward Kahlil Whitney to camp contracts."

Favors was initially the third pick in the 2010 NBA Draft by the New Jersey Nets after one season of college basketball playing for the Yellow Jackets.

Over 12 seasons in the NBA, he has played for the Utah Jazz, New Orleans Pelicans, New Jersey Nets and Oklahoma City Thunder.

His career averages are 10.6 points, 7.1 rebounds, 1.1 assists and 1.2 blocks per contest while shooting 53.4% from the field in 790 regular season games (he has also appeared in 42 NBA playoff games).

As for the Bulls, they are coming off a year where they were the tenth seed in the Eastern Conference with a 40-42 record.

The Bulls have missed the NBA playoffs in five out of the previous six seasons, but have a talented roster that is led by DeMar DeRozan and Zach LaVine.

They will play their first game of the regular season on October 25, when they host the Oklahoma City Thunder.
