BREAKING: Detroit Pistons Reportedly Release 14-Year NBA Player

According to Shams Charania and James L. Edwards III of The Athletic, the Detroit Pistons will waive Danilo Gallinari.

UPDATE: The Pistons have officially waived Danilo Gallinari.

On Thursday evening, the Detroit Pistons will face off against the Portland Trail Blazers in Oregon.

Right before then game, Shams Charania and James L. Edwards III of The Athletic reported that the team will waive Danilo Gallinari.

Via Charania: "The Pistons are waiving forward Danilo Gallinari, sources tell me and @JLEdwardsIII. Gallinari is expected to begin free-agent meetings on Friday."

Gallinari has played 32 games this season and is averaging 7.3 points, 2.8 rebounds and 1.3 assists per contest while shooting 45.1% from the field and 35.5% from the three-point range.

He spent most of the season with the Washington Wizards before getting traded to the Pistons last month.

Gallinari is far from his prime at 35 years old, but he has had an excellent career as a role player and could end up being a significant addition to a contending team's bench.

Over 14 seasons, he has played for the Denver Nuggets, Atlanta Hawks, New York Knicks, Los Angeles Clippers and Oklahoma City Thunder (in addition to the Pistons and Wizards).

His career averages are 15.2 points, 4.7 rebounds and 1.9 assists per contest while shooting 42.8% from the field and 38.2% from the three-point range in 760 regular season games.

He has also appeared in 48 NBA playoff games and helped the Hawks reach the 2021 Eastern Conference Finals.

As for the Pistons, they are the 15th seed in the Eastern Conference with a 7-43 record in 50 games.

They are 3-7 over their last ten games and most recently beat the Sacramento Kings by a score of 133-120.
