BREAKING: Kyrie Irving Has Been Traded

According to Shams Charania of The Athletic and Stadium, the Brooklyn Nets are trading Kyrie Irving to the Dallas Mavericks.

On Sunday afternoon, Shams Charania of The Athletic and Stadium reports that the Brooklyn Nets have traded All-Star point guard Kyrie Irving to the Dallas Mavericks.

Charania's first tweet: "BREAKING: The Brooklyn Nets are trading Kyrie Irving to the Dallas Mavericks for Spencer Dinwiddie, Dorian Finney-Smith, a first-round and multiple second-round picks, sources tell @TheAthletic @Stadium."

Charania's second tweet: "The Mavericks are sending a 2029 unprotected first-round pick, a 2027 second-round pick and a 2029 second round-pick to the Nets, sources @TheAthletic @Stadium. Brooklyn also is sending Markieff Morris to Dallas."

Irving getting traded does not come as a surprise because Charania had reported on Friday that he requested a trade from the organization

That said, deals of this magnitude can take time, and the blockbuster trade happening so fast is shocking.

The Mavs have one of the best players in the NBA in Luka Doncic, so adding Irving to the roster makes them arguably the most dynamic backcourt in the league.

Irving had been in his fourth season playing for the Nets and is averaging 27.1 points, 5.1 rebounds, 5.3 assists and 1.0 steals per contest.

The former Duke star is also shooting 48.6% from the field and 37.4% from the three-point range.

Despite his outstanding production over the last few seasons, Irving's tenure with the Nets will be considered underwhelming.

The Nets won just one playoff series with Irving in three seasons (they also had Kevin Durant for two of those seasons).

Right now, the Mavs are 28-26 in 54 games, which has them as the sixth seed in the Western Conference.

Last season, Doncic led them to the Western Conference Finals, so adding Irving only makes them even more of a title contender.
