Miami Heat Player Involved In Car Accident Following Magic Game

A Miami Heat player was involved in a car accident following Tuesday's game.

On Tuesday evening, the Miami Heat hosted the Orlando Magic in Florida and won by a score of 121-95.

Haywood Highsmith played three minutes in the game, and Will Manso of WPLG Local 10 News shared a statement from the Heat that revealed the 27-year-old was involved in a car accident on his way home from the arena.

The Heat's Statement: "We have been made aware that Highsmith was involved in a car accident heading home from last night's game. Highsmith is listed as out for tonight's contest against the San Antonio Spurs due to personal reasons.

Our hearts go out to those who were injured.

We will have no further comment at this time."

Highsmith is in his fourth season in the NBA and his third playing for Miami.

This season, he is averaging 5.8 points, 2.8 rebounds and 1.1 assists per contest while shooting 43.1% from the field and 37.4% from the three-point range in 37 games.

Andy Slater of Fox Sports 640 South Florida reported more details.

Via Slater: "Miami Heat’s Haywood Highsmith hit a person helping another driver stuck in the middle of the road on Tuesday night, according to a senior law-enforcement source.

The man who was hit is in critical condition and suffered a partial amputation of his leg, I’m told."

The Heat are the seventh seed in the Eastern Conference with a 27-24 record in 51 games.

They are 3-7 over their last ten games and will host the San Antonio Spurs on Wednesday night.
