BREAKING: Philadelphia 76ers Will Reportedly Sign NBA Champion

According to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski, the Philadelphia 76ers will sign Kyle Lowry.

UPDATE: Kyle Lowry confirmed the news with an Instagram post.

Kyle Lowry was recently traded from the Miami Heat to the Charlotte Hornets.

However, he will not play for the Hornets, as ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski reported (on Saturday night) that Lowry will be bought out of his contract and sign with the Philadelphia 76ers after clearing waivers.

Via Wojnarowski: "Charlotte Hornets G Kyle Lowry has agreed on a contract buyout, clearing the way for him to sign with the Philadelphia 76ers upon clearing waivers, Mark Bartelstein of @PrioritySports tells ESPN."

Lowry played in 37 games for the Heat this season and had averages of 8.2 points, 3.5 rebounds and 4.0 assists per contest while shooting 42.6% from the field and 38.5% from the three-point range.

He is far from his prime at 37 years old, but he is still capable of being a reliable backup point guard.

In addition to Miami, Lowry has also spent time with the Memphis Grizzlies, Toronto Raptors and Houston Rockets over 18 seasons.

His career averages are 14.4 points, 4.3 rebounds, 6.2 assists and 1.3 steals per contest while shooting 42.4% from the field and 36.8% from the three-point range in 1,115 regular season games.

He is a six-time NBA All-Star and helped the Raptors win the 2019 title over the Golden State Warriors.

As for the 76ers, they are the fifth seed in the Eastern Conference with a 31-21 record in 52 games.

They are 2-8 over their last ten games and will visit the Cleveland Cavaliers on Monday evening in Ohio.

Last season, the 76ers were the third seed in the Eastern Conference and lost to the Boston Celtics in the second round of the NBA playoffs.
