BREAKING: Huge News Regarding Kyrie Irving's Future With Brooklyn Nets

On Friday, Kyrie Irving requested a trade from the Brooklyn Nets ahead of next week’s trade deadline.

The Brooklyn Nets have gone through quite a bit of drama through the years.

They not only dealt with trading for and trading away James Harden all within a year, but they dealt with off-the-court drama surrounding Kyrie Irving multiple times and they even had to deal with Kevin Durant requesting a trade this past offseason.

Now, they are once again forced to deal with drama surrounding Irving, as the soon-to-be eight time All-Star guard has requested a trade from the franchise ahead of next Thursday’s trade deadline.

First reported by The Athletic’s Shams Charania, Irving has requested a trade from the Nets and prefers to be moved to a new team ahead of next week’s trade deadline or he will leave in free agency this upcoming summer.

In the final year of his contract, there has been a lot of speculation about what the future will look like for Kyrie Irving and many around the league anticipated him and the Nets coming to an agreement on a new deal moving forward.

Recently, his agent, who happens to be his stepmother, told Bleacher Report that the desire is to make Brooklyn home, but that the “ball is in the Nets court.”

Looking to play out this season with newly appointed head coach Jacque Vaughn and both Durant and Irving under contract, the Nets have not been prepared to make a franchise-altering move.

However, Kyrie Irving appears to be upset with the way contract extension talks have gone, which has forced his hand in making this next move by requesting a trade.

It will be interesting to see what transpires over the course of the next week leading up to February 9th’s trade deadline, especially since Irving now becomes the best player available on the trade market.

Playing in 40 games for the Nets this season, Irving has averaged 27.1 points, 5.1 rebounds and 5.3 assists per game while shooting 48.6 percent from the floor and 37.4 percent from three-point range.

He was recently picked to be an All-Star starter from the Eastern Conference in this season’s All-Star Game, which will take place on Feb. 19 in Salt Lake City, Utah.

The Los Angeles Lakers have been a team linked to Kyrie Irving for quite some time given his past relationship with superstar LeBron James, but there are no other known suitors at this time for Irving, though that is likely to change now that he has requested a trade.
