Brooklyn Nets Reportedly Release 17-Year NBA Veteran

According to Michael Scotto of HoopsHype, the Brooklyn Nets will waive Thaddeus Young.

UPDATE: The Brooklyn Nets have officially waived Thaddeus Young.

On Thursday, ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski reported that the Brooklyn Nets are acquiring Dennis Schroder and Thaddeus Young in a trade with the Toronto Raptors.

However, Michael Scotto of HoopsHype reports that the Nets will not be keeping Young, and he will be waived.

Via Scotto: "The Brooklyn Nets are waiving Thaddeus Young, league sources told @hoopshype."

Young has played in 23 games this season and is averaging 5.0 points, 3.3 rebounds and 2.2 assists per contest while shooting 62.1% from the field.

While the 35-year-old is far from his prime, he could still end up being a good addition to a contending team's bench once he clears waivers.

Young was the 12th pick in the 2007 NBA Draft out of Georgia Tech.

In addition to the Raptors, he has also played for the Philadelphia 76ers, Indiana Pacers, Chicago Bulls, Brooklyn Nets, Minnesota Timberwolves and San Antonio Spurs.

His career averages are 12.2 points, 5.7 rebounds, 1.8 assists and 1.4 steals per contest while shooting 50.3% from the field and 32.8% from the three-point range in 1,162 regular season games.

He has also appeared in 57 NBA playoff games.

As for the Nets, they are the 11th seed in the Eastern Conference with a 20-30 record in 50 games.

They are 4-6 over their last ten games and are in the middle of a two-game losing streak.

On Thursday evening, the Nets will host Donovan Mitchell and the Cleveland Cavaliers at Barclays Center in New York.

At home, they are 12-15 in 27 games.
