Dallas Mavericks Officially Sign Former 5th Overall Pick

The Dallas Mavericks have officially signed Dante Exum, who was the fifth pick in the 2014 NBA Draft.

Dante Exum was once seen as a potential star in the NBA.

He was the fifth pick in the 2014 NBA Draft by the Utah Jazz and averaged 4.8 points, 1.6 rebounds and 2.4 assists per contest while playing in all 82 games during his rookie season.

Unfortunately, the talented point guard dealt with injuries that caused him to miss significant time (including his entire sophomore season).

Exum last played in the NBA in 2020-21, but on Friday, the Dallas Mavericks officially announced that they had signed him.

Via Mavs PR: "The Mavericks have signed Danté Exum.

The Australian averaged 13.2 points, 2.3 rebounds and 2.7 assists in 38 games last season with Partizan and won an Adriatic League Championship.Over his two seasons in the EuroLeague, he shot 41.9% from deep.

Exum will wear #0 for Dallas."

On July 1, ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski reported that Exum's deal with Dallas is guaranteed.

Via Wojnarowski: "Free agent G Dante Exum – a former No. 5 overall pick – is returning to the NBA on a guaranteed deal with the Dallas Mavericks, his agent Brandon Rosenthal tells ESPN. After leading Partizan to their first title in a decade, Exum brings his perimeter versatility to the Mavs."

In addition to the Jazz, Exum also spent time with the Cleveland Cavaliers.

He has career averages of 5.7 points, 1.8 rebounds and 2.1 assists per contest while shooting 40.7% from the field and 30.5% from the three-point range over 245 regular season games (he has also appeared in 17 NBA playoff games).
