Detroit Pistons Reportedly Sign 15-Year NBA Veteran For Remainder Of Season

According to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski, the Detroit Pistons will sign Taj Gibson for the remainder of the season.

Taj Gibson recently signed a 10-day contract with the Detroit Pistons.

Gibson had played 16 games for the New York Knicks earlier this season and averaged 1.0 points and 1.8 rebounds per contest while shooting 30.4% from the field.

He has not appeared in a game for the Pistons, but ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski reports that Gibson will sign a contract for the remainder of the season with the team.

Via Wojnarowski: "Taj Gibson is signing a deal for the rest of the season with the Detroit Pistons, Mark Bartelstein of @PrioritySports tells ESPN. Gibson — who’s finishing up a 10-day deal — is completing his 15th NBA season. He’s expected to sign on Saturday."

Gibson was initially the 26th pick in the 2009 NBA Draft out of USC and is in his 15th season playing in the league.

In addition to the Pistons and Knicks, he has also spent time with the Chicago Bulls, Washington Wizards, Minnesota Timberwolves and Oklahoma City Thunder.

His career averages are 8.6 points, 5.8 rebounds, 1.0 assists and 1.0 blocks per contest while shooting 51.7% from the field and 25.9% from the three-point range in 961 regular season games.

The 38-year-old has appeared in 71 NBA playoff games, so he adds a lot of experience to the young Pistons locker room.

As for the Pistons, they are the 14th seed in the Eastern Conference with a 12-54 record in 66 games.

They have gone 4-6 over their last ten games and most recently lost to the Miami Heat (on Friday) by a score of 108-95.
