Porter initially went undrafted in 2019 after one season of college basketball.

As for the Pistons, they are coming off a year where they were the 15th seed in the Eastern Conference with a 17-65 record (the worst in the NBA).

The franchise is in rebuilding mode, and last made the NBA playoffs in 2019 when Blake Griffin was on the roster.
