Golden State Warriors Reportedly Sign Elite Three-Point Shooter
On Thursday evening, the Golden State Warriors drafted Brandin Podziemski (19th) and Trayce Jackson-Davis (57th) in the 2023 NBA Draft.
Now that the Draft is over, unselected players can sign with teams as free agents.
Chris Haynes of Bleacher Report and the NBA on TNT reports that the Warriors are signing Javan Johnson.
Via Haynes: "Undrafted free agent Javan Johnson out of DePaul has reached an agreement on a one-year deal with the Golden State Warriors, his agent Daniel Hazan of @hazansportsmgmt tells @NBAonTNT, @BleacherReport."
Johnson played five college basketball seasons (two for Troy, one for Iowa State and two for DePaul).
Last year, the 24-year-old averaged 14.2 points, 4.3 rebounds and 2.4 assists per contest while shooting 42.6% from the field and 41.2% from the three-point range.
He averaged 6.0 attempts from the three-point range per game and made 2.5.
The Warriors are coming off a season where they were the sixth seed in the Western Conference.
They defeated the Sacramento Kings in the first round of the NBA Playoffs (in seven games).
However, they lost to LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers in the second round (in six games).
Over the last nine seasons, the franchise has been to the NBA Finals six times and won four NBA Championships.
Even though the Warriors had a disappointing 2022-23 season, they still have future Hall of Famers Steph Curry and Klay Thompson on the roster, which means they will likely be one of the contenders to win the 2024 NBA Championship.
