Indiana Pacers Release 7-Year NBA Player

The Indiana Pacers have waived Furkan Korkmaz.

On Thursday, the Indiana Pacers acquired Furkan Korkmaz as part of a three-team deal with the San Antonio Spurs and Philadelphia 76ers.

Korkmaz had been averaging 2.5 points per contest while shooting 39.5% from the field and 35.0% from the three-point range in 35 games for the 76ers.

However, the Pacers will not be keeping Korkmaz, as the team has announced that they have waived him.

Korkmaz was the 26th pick in the 2016 NBA Draft and had spent his entire career with the 76ers before Thursday's trade.

His career averages are 6.8 points, 2.0 rebounds and 1.2 assists per contest while shooting 40.6% from the field and 35.6% from the three-point range in 328 regular season games.

He has also appeared in 33 NBA playoff games (four starts).

During the 2020 season, Korkmaz was a key player on the 76ers and averaged 9.8 points per contest while shooting 40.2% from the three-point range in 72 games (12 starts).

Once he clears waivers, Korkmaz could be a name to watch for a contending team's bench.

As for the Pacers, they are the sixth seed in the Eastern Conference with a 29-24 record in 53 games.

They are 5-5 over their last ten games and most recently lost to Steph Curry and the Golden State Warriors by a score of 131-109.

Following the Warriors, the Pacers will visit the New York Knicks on Saturday evening at Madison Square Garden in Manhattan.
