Jimmy Butler Made NBA History In Heat-Cavs Game

Jimmy Butler made NBA history during Wednesday's game.

On Wednesday evening, the Miami Heat are in Ohio facing off against the Cleveland Cavaliers.

During the game, Jimmy Butler made NBA history by moving up on the all-time assists list.

Butler came into the evening with 3,220 career assists, and he has now moved ahead of Hall of Famer Julius Erving (3,224) for 197th on the list. 

Butler entered the matchup with averages of 21.4 points, 5.3 rebounds, 3.7 assists and 1.3 steals per contest while shooting 47.3% from the field and 41.9% from the three-point range. 

The Heat are 9-5 in their first 14 games and they most recently defeated the Chicago Bulls by a score of 118-100.

In 29 minutes of playing time, Butler had 16 points, three rebounds, six assists and one steal while shooting 4/11 from the field. 

Over the previous ten games, the Heat are 8-2, and they are 5-4 in the nine games they have played on the road away from Miami, Florida. 

Butler is in his fifth season with Miami, and he has led them to the NBA Finals in two out of the previous four years.

Following the Cavs, the Heat will play their next game on Friday evening when they visit the New York Knicks at Madison Square Garden. 

In addition to the Heat, Butler has also played for the Chicago Bulls, Minnesota Timberwolves and Philadelphia 76ers.  

His career averages are 18.2 points, 5.3 rebounds, 4.2 assists and 1.6 steals per contest while shooting 46.8% from the field in 766 regular season games.
