UPDATE: Kevin Durant Can Make NBA History In Suns-Lakers Game

UPDATE: Kevin Durant finished the game with 39 points and moved into 12th on the all-time scoring list.   

On Thursday evening, the Phoenix Suns will face off against the Los Angeles Lakers in California.   

They are coming off a 108-104 victory over the Golden State Warriors (on Tuesday). 

In Thursday's game, 13-time All-Star Kevin Durant has a chance to make exciting NBA history.  

Via NBA Communications: "Kevin Durant enters tonight's game needing 37 points to pass Hakeem Olajuwon for 12th place on the NBA's all-time scoring list."

Durant is one of the greatest scorers of all time and comes into the night with 26,910 career points.

The former Texas star is in his second season with the Suns (he was traded from the Brooklyn Nets in February) and is coming off a year where he averaged 29.1 points, 6.7 rebounds, 5.0 assists and 1.4 blocks per contest while shooting 56.0% from the field and 40.4% from the three-point range.

Durant is in his 16th season, and has played for the Brooklyn Nets, Phoenix Suns, Golden State Warriors and Oklahoma City Thunder/Seattle SuperSonics. 

His career averages are 27.3 points, 7.1 rebounds, 4.3 assists, 1.1 steals and 1.1 blocks per contest while shooting 49.9% from the field and 38.5% from the three-point range in 987 regular season games (he has also won two NBA Championships and played in 166 NBA playoff games). 

In the first game of the season, Durant had 18 points, ten rebounds, three assists and one block in 37 minutes of playing time. 

Following the Lakers, the Suns will play their home opener against the Utah Jazz on Saturday night.
