Los Angeles Lakers Announce Significant Roster Move

The Los Angeles Lakers announced that they have signed Jarred Vanderbilt to a contract extension.

Jarred Vanderbilt is coming off a year where he played for the Utah Jazz and Los Angeles Lakers

The former Kentucky star was traded from Utah to Los Angeles in the middle of the season.

He finished the regular season with averages of 7.9 points, 7.5 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 1.1 steals per contest while shooting 54.8% from the field and 32.2% from the three-point range in 78 games.

This summer, the final year of Vanderbilt's contract became guaranteed for the 2023-24 season at $4.6 million.

In addition, the Lakers have now announced that they have signed the 24-year-old to a contract extension.

Via The Lakers: "The Los Angeles Lakers signed forward Jarred Vanderbilt to a contract extension, it was announced today by Vice President of Basketball Operations and General Manager Rob Pelinka."

Shams Charania of The Athletic and Stadium had previously reported the details of Vanderbilt's new deal.

Via Charania on September 15: "Los Angeles Lakers forward Jarred Vanderbilt has agreed on a four-year, $48 million contract extension with the franchise, Klutch Sports CEO Rich Paul and agent Erika Ruiz told @TheAthletic @Stadium. Deal is fully guaranteed with a player option in the fourth year."

The Lakers are coming off a year where they made the Western Conference Finals, so keeping a young player like Vanderbilt is a smart move.

In addition to the Lakers and Jazz, he has also played for the Minnesota Timberwolves and Denver Nuggets.

Over five seasons in the NBA, Vanderbilt has career averages of 6.2 points, 6.6 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 1.0 steals per contest while shooting 57.3% from the field in 244 games (he has also appeared in 24 NBA playoff games).
