Luka Doncic Made NBA History In Mavs-Spurs Game

Luka Doncic made NBA history in Wednesday's game.

On Wednesday evening, Luka Doncic and the Dallas Mavericks played their first game of the regular season against the San Antonio Spurs (on the road).

The Mavs won by a score of 126-119, so they are now 1-0 and will play their next game on Friday evening when they host the Brooklyn Nets in Texas.

Doncic had an excellent game, putting up 33 points, 13 rebounds, ten assists and two steals in 34 minutes of playing time.

He also made NBA history with his impressive stat line.

Via NBA History: "Luka becomes just the 3rd player in NBA History to have a 30+ point triple-double in a season opener, joining:

Giannis Antetokounmpo (30 PTS, 13 REB, 11 AST - 2019)

Oscar Robertson (37 PTS, 10 REB, 10 AST - 1966)

Oscar Robertson (35 PTS, 15 REB, 13 AST - 1961)"

In addition to Doncic's stellar play, NBA Champion Kyrie Irving had 22 points, two rebounds and six assists.

Last season, the Mavs traded for Irving in February, so this is the first full season of the superstar duo playing together.

The Mavs are coming off a season where they were the 11th seed in the Western Conference with a 38-44 record.

They made the Western Conference Finals in 2022 but missed the NBA playoffs (and play-in tournament) in 2023.

Doncic was the third pick in the 2018 NBA Draft and is in his sixth season in the league (all with the Mavs).

He has career averages of 27.6 points, 8.6 rebounds, 8.0 assists and 1.1 steals per contest.
