Grizzlies' Dillon Brooks Shares Update On Ja Morant Following Win Against Warriors

Following Thursday night’s victory over the Golden State Warriors, Memphis Grizzlies wing Dillon Brooks told reporters that Ja Morant called the team after the game.

Heading into Thursday’s matchup against the Golden State Warriors, the Memphis Grizzlies had lost 13 of their last 20 games. Needing to pick up a win, they were able to do so at home, defeating the Warriors 131-110.

The Grizzlies are now tied with the Sacramento Kings for the 2-seed in the Western Conference, but they face the challenge of having to win key games down the stretch run of the season without Ja Morant, who is currently away from the team stemming from his incident involving a gun recently.

After their win over the Warriors, Grizzlies wing Dillon Brooks spoke to the media and said that Morant had called the team after the game.

“He called us after the game, congratulating us,” Brooks said, via ESPN’s Tim MacMahon. “He’s in good spirits, working out. Even though he’s not with us, he’s still with us. Always. This is his team. Every single day he sends us a group text giving us encouraging messages, just to keep being us.

“He’s still with us every single day, every single day, and we can’t wait to have him back.”

Initially stepping away from the team for two games, the Grizzlies announced on Wednesday that Ja Morant would miss their next four games, meaning that he will be out through at least March 15.

Head coach Taylor Jenkins also spoke about Morant on Thursday, stating that he would not share any additional details and that the young superstar has been responsive and communicative with the organization.

Morant’s absence puts a lot of strain on the Grizzlies late in the year, especially since they are also trying to figure things out with Steven Adams and Brandon Clarke both being sidelined with injuries. Clarke is out for the remainder of the season due to an Achilles injury and the team recently announced that Adams would miss the remainder of the regular season with a PCL injury.

No additional details have been released as to what steps Ja Morant is taking in order to rejoin the Memphis Grizzlies and nothing has been officially said about when he could potentially return this season.

Recently making his second All-Star appearance, Morant has averaged 27.1 points, 8.2 assists and 6.0 rebounds per game this season.
