Miles Bridges Receives Suspension From NBA

Former 2018 first-round pick Miles Bridges has been punished by the NBA with a suspension stemming from his domestic violence arrest last summer.

Once thought to receive a max extension from the Charlotte Hornets last offseason, Miles Bridges ended up sitting out the entirety of the 2022-23 season without a contract due to being arrested and facing domestic violence charges.

Ahead of free agency last summer, Bridges was arrested for felony domestic violence and sentenced  to three years of probation, but no jail time, as part of a deal with prosecutors. This no-contest plea made means that he is accepting the punishment and the conviction without formally admitting guilt in the case.

On Friday, the NBA finally announced that they had concluded their investigation into Bridges, officially handing out punishment for his involvement and wrongdoings.

NBA Communications:

"NEW YORK, April 14, 2023 - The NBA announced today that Miles Bridges has been suspended for 30 games without pay as a result of a domestic violence incident involving the mother of his children.

The incident occurred on June 27, 2022, in Los Angeles, after which Mr. Bridges was arrested and charged with multiple offenses. On November 3, 2022, Mr. Bridges entered a plea of no contest to a felony domestic violence charge and the remaining counts against him were dismissed.

The NBA conducted its own investigation into this matter, reviewing all available materials and interviewing numerous third-party witnesses, as well as the parties involved. The NBA also consulted with a group of domestic violence experts who provide the league with guidance in such cases. The 30-game suspension is based on all facts and circumstance of this matter and considers the conduct and its result, as well as the outcome of the criminal matter, among other factors.

Following his arrest and plea, Mr. Bridges did not sign an NBA contract for the 2022-23 season, missing all 82 games. In recognition of that outcome, the NBA has deemed 20 games of the suspension to have been already served. If Mr. Bridges signs an NBA contract, he will be required to miss the first 10 games for which he is otherwise eligible and able to play."

Miles Bridges has been given a 30-game suspension by the NBA for his actions, but the league is adjusting his suspension.

Since he sat out the entire 2022-23 season without a contract, the NBA is saying that 20 games of his suspension have already been accounted for, so he will be able to return to the court for any team in the league after serving a 10-game suspension.

One of the breakout stars of the 2022-23 NBA season, Miles Bridges played in a total of 80 games a season ago for the Charlotte Hornets, averaging 20.2 points, 7.0 rebounds and 3.8 assists per game while shooting 49.1 percent from the floor and 33.1 percent from three-point range.

It is unknown if the Hornets or other teams will look to sign Bridges following this announcement by the NBA, but Charlotte has remained in contact with 25-year-old forward.

Forgiveness is a tough word for humans to cope with, especially in situations like this one. Miles Bridges made a massive mistake and seems to be doing what he can to right his wrongs, but no women should ever be put in harm's way or have a sense of fear in any workplace, something that could transpire should Bridges sign a contract with the Hornets or any other team in the league.
