NBA Announces Teammate Of The Year Award Nominees

On Thursday, the NBA announced the finalists for this season’s Twyman-Stokes Teammate of the Year Award.

The Twyman-Stokes Teammate of the Year Award in the NBA is an award given out at the conclusion of a season that honors the player deemed the best teammate based on selfless play, on- and off-the-court leadership as a mentor and role model to other players in and around the NBA, as well as commitment and dedication to the player’s team.

Six players from both the Eastern and Western Conference were selected as finalists for this year’s award by a panel of NBA executives who will determine the recipient of this year’s award.

In the Eastern Conference, Mikal Bridges (Brooklyn Nets), Darius Garland (Cleveland Cavaliers), Udonis Haslem (Miami Heat), Jrue Holiday (Milwaukee Bucks), Derrick Rose (New York Knicks) and Grant Williams (Boston Celtics) were all named finalists. Holiday won this award last season for the second time in his career.

In the Western Conference, Stephen Curry (Golden State Warriors), Harrison Barnes (Sacramento Kings), Aaron Gordon (Denver Nuggets), Jaren Jackson Jr. (Memphis Grizzlies), Damion Lee (Phoenix Suns) and Damian Lillard (Portland Trail Blazers) were all named finalists.

Out of the twelve finalists, Udonis Haslem is the oldest at 42-years-old. In his 20th and final NBA season, all of which have been with the Miami Heat, Haslem continues to be one of the best veteran mentors this league has had.

Almost acting as an extension of the Heat’s coaching staff, Haslem has been a leader for his organization for the last several years and will very likely have his number retired by the Heat in the near future.

Jaren Jackson Jr. from the Memphis Grizzlies and Darius Garland from the Cleveland Cavaliers are the two youngest finalists at 23-years-old.

Jrue Holiday, Stephen Curry, Jaren Jackson Jr. and Damian Lillard are the only All-Stars on this list.
