NBA Rescinds Giannis Antetokounmpo's Triple-Double From Sunday Night

Throwing a rebound to himself at the end of the Milwaukee Bucks’ victory over the Washington Wizards on Sunday night for a triple-double, the NBA has since rescinded Giannis Antetokounmpo’s tenth rebound from the official score book.

Defeating the Washington Wizards 117-111 on Sunday night, the Milwaukee Bucks picked up their NBA-leading 46th victory of the season and Giannis Antetokounmpo recorded his fifth triple-double of the season… Or did he?

A lot of noise has been made on Monday in regards to Antetokounmpo’s triple-double, as at the end of the game with the clock running out, the Bucks’ superstar dribbled the ball towards the Wizards’ basket and softly threw the ball off the bottom of the rim to grab what was supposedly his tenth rebound of the game, securing his triple-double.

Upon further review though, the NBA has since rescinded Giannis’ tenth rebound due to league rules stating that a player has to shoot with the intent to score a field-goal, according to ESPN’s Zach Lowe.

Zach Lowe: “The league has rescinded Giannis Antetokounmpo's 10th rebound last night--and thus his triple-double, sources tell ESPN. League rules say that for a field-goal attempt to count as official, the player has to shoot "with intent to score a field-goal" -- i.e. to make the shot.”

Due to the fact that Antetokounmpo was just throwing the ball off the rim to get a rebound and he was not actually taking a shot, this does not count in the league’s official score sheets.

In this 117-111 victory, Giannis Antetokounmpo’s numbers will now be corrected to 23 points, 13 assists and nine rebounds.

Playing in a total of 52 games this season, Antetokounmpo has averaged 31.2 points, 11.9 rebounds and 5.5 assists per game while shooting 53.8 percent from the floor. Having another MVP-like season, Giannis may have been trying to secure another triple-double to add to his MVP resume for this year, but the NBA is having none of that!

Giannis Antetokounmpo and the Bucks are currently 46-18 on the season, which is the best record in the league.
