New Orleans Pelicans Reportedly Sign Recent Orlando Magic Player

According to Will Guillory of The Athletic, the New Orleans Pelicans will sign Devin Cannady.

UPDATE: The New Orleans Pelicans have waived Devin Cannady.

Devin Cannady is coming off a year where he played in the G League for the South Bay Lakers.

The former Princeton star averaged 11.5 points, 2.7 rebounds and 2.1 assists per contest while shooting 41.8% from the field and 36.5% from the three-point range in 31 regular season games (he also appeared in 17 Showcase Cup games and one G League playoff game).

This summer, the 27-year-old was a free agent available to be signed by any team in the league.

On Thursday, Will Guillory of The Athletic reported that Cannady will sign a deal with the New Orleans Pelicans

Via Guillory: "Devin Cannady, the 2021 GLeague Finals MVP, is signing a camp deal with the Pelicans but will not participate in training camp due to commitments to USA Basketball, sources tell @TheAthletic"

Cannady initially went undrafted in 2019 and has played two seasons in the NBA for the Orlando Magic (most recently in 2021-22).

He has a career-average of 6.5 points per contest while shooting 36.1% from the field and 39.6% from the three-point range in 13 games.

As for the Pelicans, they are coming off a year where they were the ninth seed in the Western Conference with a 42-40 record.

They made the play-in tournament but lost to the Oklahoma City Thunder in the first game, so they missed the NBA playoffs.

The Pelicans have a very talented roster led by Zion Williamson, Brandon Ingram and C.J. McCollum, but they dealt with injuries this past season.
