Suns' Monty Williams Sounds Off On Officials Following Suns-Bucks Game On Tuesday

Following Tuesday night's loss to the Milwaukee Bucks, Phoenix Suns head coach Monty Williams criticized the officials for the amount of free-throws Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo was given.

The Milwaukee Bucks defeated the Phoenix Suns 116-104 on Tuesday night, becoming the first team to reach 50 wins this season and also becoming the first team to clinch a spot in the playoffs

In this game, the Bucks shot 21 more free-throws than the Suns and Milwaukee's Giannis Antetokounmpo went 14-24 from the free-throw line, something that did not sit well with Suns head coach Monty Williams.

"He had three free-throws and Jrue Holiday is one of the most physical defenders in the game," Williams said initially talking about his star Devin Booker. "Giannis had 24 free-throws. It's ridiculous, there is no other way to put it. DA [Deandre Ayton] can't play. When a guy just runs into you the whole game, it's like we've dealt with this so many times with this team and credit to him, he saw the way the game was being called and he kept doing it. But that's hard to swallow and this has happened multiple times when playing them.

"It's hard for me to tell our guys to keep their level of poise because that's frustrating."

Antetokounmpo getting to the free-throw line is nothing new, as he currently leads the league in free-throw attempts this season and is constantly getting to the line because of his aggressive play on the offensive-end of the floor.

From Williams' point of view though, the calls were not going both ways in this game. Devin Booker, who is averaging 6.2 free-throw attempts per game this season, only took three free-throws and all game long, Deandre Ayton was in foul trouble because any contact he had on Antetokounmpo was being called a foul from the Suns' point of view.

Players and coaches criticizing officials has been at an all-time high this season, as Toronto Raptors guard Fred VanVleet was recently fined $30,000 for his public criticism of the officials.

Defeating the Suns on Tuesday, the Bucks have now won both of their regular season meetings against the team they beat in the 2021 NBA Finals.
