Portland Trail Blazers Reportedly Release A Player

According to Shams Charania of The Athletic and Stadium, the Portland Trail Blazers will release Jeenathan Williams.

Jeenathan Williams is coming off his rookie season, where he played in five games for the Portland Trail Blazers.

The former Buffalo star averaged 10.6 points, 3.0 rebounds and 2.0 assists per contest while shooting 61.5% from the field and 37.5% from the three-point range.

On Friday, Shams Charania of The Athletic and Stadium reported that the Trail Blazers will waive the 24-year-old.

Via Charania: "The Portland Trail Blazers are waiving guard Jeenathan Williams, sources tell @TheAthletic @Stadium. Williams averaged 10.6 points and 25.3 minutes per game in five contests to finish last season."

Williams initially went undrafted last summer and has also spent time in the G League.

In 32 regular season games, he averaged 14.4 points, 4.5 rebounds and 2.2 assists per contest while shooting 52.3% from the field and 42.0% from the three-point range (he also appeared in 18 Showcase Cup games and one G League playoff game).

Williams could be an excellent addition to a young team looking to develop talent since he played well in the G League (and his five games in the NBA).

As for the Trail Blazers, they are coming off a year where they were the 13th seed in the Western Conference and had a 33-49 record.

They missed the NBA playoffs for the second straight season despite having superstar point guard Damian Lillard average a sensational 32.2 points and 7.3 assists per contest while shooting 46.3% from the field.

That said, the All-Star may not be on the roster next season.
