When Was The Last Time The Kings Were In The Playoffs?

The Sacramento Kings are on the verge of clinching their first playoff spot in nearly two decades.

UPDATE (3/30/22): The Sacramento Kings have clinched their first playoff berth since the 2005-06 season.

Do you remember anything about the 2005-06 NBA season?

Well, Dwyane Wade led the Miami Heat to a championship with Shaquille O’Neal by his side, Kobe Bryant led the league in scoring, Steve Nash won the league’s MVP award and most importantly, the Sacramento Kings were in the playoffs.

Seventeen seasons later, the Kings are on the verge of ending what has been a dreadfully historic stretch in all of professional sports.

Sacramento has not been to the postseason since that 2005-06 season, but under the leadership of Mike Brown in his first season with the organization, the Kings have put together their first 40-win season since the last time they were in the postseason and on Wednesday night, they can finally clinch their playoff spot.

The Kings are on the road in Portland to take on the Portland Trail Blazers on Wednesday night and the good news for Sacramento and their fans is that the Trail Blazers are missing several key talents.

Damian Lillard, Jerami Grant, Anfernee Simons, Jusuf Nurkic and Justise Winslow will all miss this game for Portland, as Trendon Watford and Cam Reddish are both listed as doubtful to play as well due to injuries.

The Trail Blazers are severely undermanned and with a victory, the Sacramento Kings will officially clinch their spot in the 2023 NBA Playoffs.

The last time the Kings were in the postseason, Mike Bibby was leading the way with Metta World Peace coming over to Sacramento halfway through the year.

For almost two decades now, Kings fans have suffered and have seen their team as the laughing stock of the entire league, but not this season.

This year has been extremely special for this franchise and this is just the beginning. De’Aaron Fox and Domantas Sabonis are both All-Stars, Mike Brown is likely to win the league’s Coach of the Year award, GM Monte McNair could win this year’s Executive of the Year award and the Kings have a new energy to them that has brought out the most in their fan base, one of the most passionate and loyal group of fans in the entire NBA.

Sacramento, it is time to begin partying because the Kings are on the verge of going back to the NBA Playoffs!
