Updated NBA Three-Point Contest Participants List

New York Knicks big man Julius Randle has accepted an invite to the 2023 Three-Point Contest during All-Star Weekend after Portland Trail Blazers guard Anfernee Simons suffered an ankle injury recently and can no longer participate.

This past Tuesday, the NBA revealed the eight players who will participate in this year’s Starry 3-Point Contest.

The list is highlighted by two All-Stars this season in Damian Lillard and Jayson Tatum, as well as some of the best perimeter shooters in the league in Buddy Hield, Tyrese Haliburton, Tyler Herro, Lauri Markkanen, Kevin Huerter and Anfernee Simons.

However, Simons will no longer be able to participate in the event during All-Star Weekend, as he recently suffered a bad-looking right ankle sprain and is set to undergo more testing soon to determine the severity of his injury.

Needing to replace Simons in the event, the NBA has added a third All-Star to the mix with New York Knicks forward Julius Randle set to be the eighth participant in the event.

Making his second All-Star appearance in the last three seasons, Randle has been having a fantastic year with the Knicks, averaging 24.8 points and 10.8 rebounds per game while shooting 33.8 percent from three-point range.

Randle has made at least two threes in 41 of the 60 games he has played in this season and he ranks 10th in the league with 161 made threes this season.

According to the team, Julius Randle will be the eighth different player in Knicks history to participate in the NBA’s Three-Point Contest and he will be the first since Steve Novak in 2013. No Knicks player has ever finished higher than fourth in the event.

Ahead of Saturday’s event, Damian Lillard and Buddy Hield are the early favorites, as Lillard ranks fourth in the league in made threes and Hield currently leads all players in the NBA in made threes.

Jayson Tatum ranks sixth in the league and Lauri Markkanen is the only other player ranked inside the Top-10 in made threes this season that is participating in the Three-Point Contest during All-Star Weekend, as he will be the hometown favorite with the Utah Jazz hosting all the festivities.
