Victor Wembanyama's Status For Spurs-Hornets NBA Summer League Game

According to Marc Stein of The Stein Line, Victor Wembanyama will likely play in the Spurs-Hornets NBA Summer League game on Friday.

On Friday, NBA Summer League in Las Vegas will begin, and the San Antonio Spurs will play their first game against the Charlotte Hornets.

All eyes in the NBA world will be on the Spurs because they drafted Victor Wembanyama with the first pick in the 2023 NBA Draft last month.

According to Marc Stein of The Stein Line (via his newsletter on Substack), Wembanyama will likely play in their game with the Hornets.

Via Stein: "The Spurs' current plan is indeed for Victor Wembanyama to make his San Antonio debut Friday night in Las Vegas against Charlotte."

This is excellent news for basketball fans because Wembanyama is seen as one of the best prospects in the league's history.

Via ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski on May 16: "This is the most highly-anticipated player to ever enter the NBA. This is maybe not only the greatest prospect in the NBA's history, maybe the greatest prospect in the history of team sports."

In addition, he has joined the perfect organization as the Spurs have won five NBA Championships since 1999 and are led by head coach Gregg Popovich.

A big part of the Spurs' success has been talented big men such as Hall of Famers Tim Duncan and David Robinson.

That said, the Spurs have been in rebuilding mode for several years and have been unable to make the NBA Playoffs for each of the last four seasons.

This past year, the team went 22-60, which was tied for the second-worst record in the league.
