Washington Wizards Sign 14-Year NBA Veteran

The Washington Wizards have re-signed Taj Gibson.

Taj Gibson has been in the NBA for 14 seasons and spent last year with the Washington Wizards

The former USC star averaged 3.4 points and 1.9 rebounds per contest while shooting 52.0% from the field and 33.3% from the three-point range in 49 regular season games.

This summer, Gibson became a free agent, and (on Friday) he officially re-signed with the Wizards.

ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski reported the details of Gibson's new deal with Washington.

Via Wojnarowski: "Free agent F Taj Gibson is returning to the Washington Wizards on a one-year, $3.2M contract, Mark Bartelstein of @PrioritySports tells ESPN. At 38, this will be Gibson’s 15th NBA season."

In addition to the Wizards, Gibson has also played for the Chicago Bulls, New York Knicks, Minnesota Timberwolves and Oklahoma City Thunder.

His career averages are 8.7 points, 5.9 rebounds, 1.0 assists and 1.0 blocks per contest while shooting 51.8% from the field and 26.7% from the three-point range in 945 regular season games (he has also appeared in 71 NBA playoff games).

Since Gibson has extensive experience, this could end up being a good move for the Wizards, who have a young roster led by Jordan Poole and Kyle Kuzma.

The Wizards are coming off a season where they were the 12th seed in the Eastern Conference with a 35-47 record.

They missed the NBA playoffs for the second straight season, but they will have a much different team next year, as they have traded away Bradley Beal and Kristaps Porzingis.
