Washington Wizards Sign Former NBA 1st Round Pick

The Washington Wizards have signed R.J. Hampton.

On Monday evening, the Washington Wizards will face off against the Utah Jazz in Salt Lake City.   

Before the game (on Sunday), the team announced that they had signed R.J. Hampton to a 10-day contract.   

Hampton has played in eight games for the Miami Heat this season and averaged 1.3 points and 1.0 assists per contest. 

Via The Washington Wizards: "The Washington Wizards announced today the signings of guard-forward Justin Champagnie to a two-way contract and guard R.J. Hampton to a 10-day contract."

Hampton was the 24th pick in the 2020 NBA Draft and has also played for the Denver Nuggets, Orlando Magic and Detroit Pistons (in addition to the Heat). 

His career averages are 6.8 points, 2.7 rebounds and 1.8 assists per contest while shooting 40.8% from the field and 33.8% from the three-point range in 170 regular season games. 

Hampton has also played in the G League this season and is averaging 12.1 points, 4.3 rebounds and 3.2 assists per contest while shooting 47.8% from the field and 32.5% from the three-point range in 13 regular season games (one start). 

As for the Wizards, they have had a tough season and are the 15th seed in the Eastern Conference with a 9-51 record in 60 games.  

They are in the middle of a 14-game losing streak and most recently lost to the Los Angeles Clippers by a score of 140-115. 

Following the Jazz (on Monday), the Wizards will return home to host the Orlando Magic on Wednesday evening.
