8x NBA All-Star The Cleveland Cavaliers Must Consider

I believe the Cleveland Cavaliers should consider signing eight-time NBA All-Star Dwight Howard.

Dwight Howard is one of the greatest players in the history of the NBA.

At this stage of his career, he is a role player, and this past season the future Hall of Famer played in Taiwan.

This summer, he remains a free agent that is available to be signed by any team.

I believe the Cleveland Cavaliers should sign Howard.

Why?

Howard most recently played in the NBA during the 2022 season with the Los Angeles Lakers, and he averaged 6.2 points and 5.9 rebounds per contest while shooting 65.8% from the field.

This past season, the Cavs were among the worst-rebounding teams in the league (27th).

Therefore, Howard could be an excellent addition to their bench and backup for 2022 All-Star center Jarrett Allen.

There is no question he would be able to boost their rebounding numbers.

The Cavs are coming off a year where they were the fourth seed in the Eastern Conference and made the NBA playoffs for the first time since the 2018 season.

They had an impressive 51-31 record but lost to the New York Knicks in the first round of the playoffs (in five games).

Despite the disappointing postseason, the Cavs will likely be among the elite teams in the Eastern Conference next season.

Howard's significant experience would play a beneficial role in their locker room.

In addition to being a superstar, Howard helped the Lakers win the 2020 NBA Championship as a role player.

For the Cavs to take the next step, they will need to surround their stars (Donovan Mitchell and Darius Garland) with the right role players, and Howard would be a fantastic choice.

He could likely be signed for a veteran's minimum deal, so there would be no significant financial risk for the Cavs.
