Are The Golden State Warriors Making A Mistake?

Dwight Howard is a free agent and could be a good fit for the Golden State Warriors.

Dwight Howard was once among the best players (and the best center) in the entire NBA.

The eight-time NBA All-Star most recently played in the league for the Los Angeles Lakers during the 2022 season and averaged 6.2 points and 5.9 rebounds per contest while shooting 61.2% from the field in 16.2 minutes of playing time.

This past season, Howard played in Taiwan, and he still remains a free agent (available to be signed by any team in the league).

Recently, Anthony Slater and Shams Charania of The Athletic reported that the Golden State Warriors would bring in six players for a workout over the next few weeks.

However, there was no mention of Howard.

Are the Warriors making a mistake?

The Warriors are coming off a season where they were the sixth seed in the Western Conference and had a 44-38 record.

They lost in the second round of the NBA playoffs to the Lakers, but the franchise has also won four titles in the previous nine seasons.

Therefore, they do not need to add much to the team to be a contender.

A player like Howard would be an excellent addition to their bench because no one on the roster is taller than 6'10".

Howard would give them significant size and rebounding and has experience playing with other superstars, so sharing the court with Chris Paul, Steph Curry and Klay Thompson would likely be a seamless transition.

His career averages are 15.7 points, 11.8 rebounds, 1.3 assists and 1.8 blocks per contest while shooting 58.7% from the field in 1,242 regular season games (he has also appeared in 125 NBA playoff games and won the 2020 NBA Championship).
