Netflix released the fifth season of Drive to Survive yesterday. The show offers fans a behind-the-scenes insight into the sport with behind-the-scenes access to the teams and drivers. 

Here is an overview of what to expect from each episode.

Episode One: The New Dawn

In this episode, the Formula 1 season kicks off in Bahrain with Ferrari hoping to finally break through with their new cars and claim victory at the top. The team's drivers, Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz, face intense pressure to perform as they take on fierce competition from rivals Red Bull and Mercedes. 

Meanwhile, Haas takes a big risk by making a last-minute driver switch, hoping it will pay off in their quest for success. They decided to drop Russian driver Nikita Mazepin after Russia invaded Ukraine, and the American team replaced him with Kevin Magnussen. 

As the race unfolds, the teams face unexpected challenges and must make split-second decisions to stay ahead of the competition. In the end, only one team will emerge victorious, but the season has just begun, and anything can happen in the high-stakes world of Formula 1.

Episode Two: Bounce Back

In this episode, Mercedes principal Toto Wolff is faced with unexpected struggles in the team's performance. He works tirelessly with the engineers and mechanics to identify the issues and find solutions. 

Meanwhile, Lewis Hamilton, the team's star driver, faces a challenging ride in the team's redesigned car. Hamilton uses his experience and skill to navigate through the car's bumpy ride, providing valuable feedback to the team in the process. As tensions rise within the team and with other team principals, the Mercedes team must work together to get back on track and back to their winning ways.

Episode Three: Matter Of Principal

The Ferrari team prepares for two pivotal events - a star-studded new event in Miami and a game-changing race at Silverstone. The drivers and decision-makers feel immense pressure due to high expectations. 

However, cracks start to appear with reliability issues and strategical errors being made within the team. 

At the end of the season, Mattia Binotto resigned from his role as Ferrari team principal following the countless issues the team endured in 2022.

Episode Four: Like Father, Like Son?

Mick Schumacher, son of racing legend Michael Schumacher, is under pressure to perform and prove his worth to the team. With the weight of his father's legacy on his shoulders, Mick must navigate the intense world of Formula 1 racing and fight to overcome the obstacles standing in his way. Despite the mounting challenges, the Haas team remains determined to succeed and push forward, no matter what obstacles they may face along the way.

Episode Five: Pardon My French

This episode follows Otmar Szafnauer, the team principal of Alpine, as he works tirelessly to transform the team's fortunes on and off the track. However, just as things are looking up, the team is thrown into disarray by a new round of driver musical chairs, which leaves Szafnauer scrambling to figure out his plans for the future. Despite the setback, he remains determined to push forward and continue to improve the team's performance.

Episode Six: Nice Guys Finish Last

McLaren team managers begin to consider new talent as a potential replacement for Daniel Ricciardo, leaving his future with the team uncertain. Meanwhile, Alpine faces a tough decision about the best way to move forward in the season. As the situation unfolds, Ricciardo and the Alpine team must navigate the pressures and uncertainties of the highly competitive world of Formula One racing.

Episode Seven: Hot Seat

With Red Bull dominating the leaderboard, Sergio (Checo) Pérez is under pressure to perform in the highly-anticipated Monaco Grand Prix. As the team seeks to further extend their lead against Ferrari, Checo must overcome a challenging street circuit that has tripped up many drivers before. With tensions running high and the stakes even higher, every decision made by Checo and his team could mean the difference between victory and defeat.

As we all remember, Perez suffers a crash in qualifying which scuppers Max Verstappen's grid placement for the race on Sunday. 

Episode Eight: Alpha Male

AlphaTauri is thrown into turmoil when Pierre Gasly decides to leave the team, leaving Yuki Tsunoda to face an uncertain future. With the pressure on, Tsunoda must show that he has what it takes to step up and lead the team. But as he struggles to adapt to his new role, Tsunoda must also confront the possibility of losing a close friend and teammate. 

The team also confirm their signing of rookie driver Nyck de Vries who will be driving alongside Tsunoda in 2023. De Vries poses a threat the Tsunoda as an older driver and Formula E and Formula 2 champion.

Episode Nine: Over The Limit

Red Bull's success is in jeopardy as the FIA launches an investigation into accusations of financial impropriety against the team. As Red Bull's drivers and team leaders struggle to defend their reputation, rival teams eagerly await the outcome. 

Despite the mounting pressure, Red Bull pushes forward, confident that they can maintain their lead and prove their innocence. But with the championship hanging in the balance, the stakes couldn't be higher.

In the end the team were handed a $7 million fine and a 10% reduction in wind tunnel time for the upcoming 2023 season. Verstappen was able to keep his title.

Episode Ten: End Of The Road

As the 2022 season nears its end, the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix becomes a battleground for Ferrari, Mercedes, and Alpine. 

With Red Bull taking the championship win earlier in the season, the battle continues for second place and beyond. Ferrari is determined to maintain their lead against their rivals, but Mercedes are not willing to let them get away so easily. The stakes are high and the pressure is on as the season hurtles towards its conclusion in a dramatic final race.
