F1 News: Christian Horner Fights Back At Honda Leaving Red Bull

The Red Bull chief isn't worried, with him believing his team is reaching new heights for 2026.

Red Bull Racing, a formidable force in Formula 1, is set to part ways with Honda in 2026, bringing an end to a highly successful partnership that yielded two drivers' world titles with Max Verstappen and one constructors' championship. Upon hearing the news that the Japanese manufacturer will be partnering with Aston Martin come the new regulations, Christian Horner fought back at the move, admitting that while Aston Martin has Honda, Red Bull is taking things to a "new level".

Only days ago, Honda announced its partnership with Aston Martin for the new regulations which come into play in 2026. Red Bull, on the other hand, will embark on a new journey with their own Red Bull Powertrains, developed in collaboration with Ford, starting in the same season. Reflecting on this pivotal decision, Horner acknowledged its cost but emphasised that Red Bull has outgrown its status as a customer team in recent times.

During a press conference in Monaco, Horner expressed his perspective on the partnership with Honda, highlighting the unique nature of their relationship:

"The customer is when you pay for something, nothing in life is free. We pay for an engine and we receive a service. The relationship with Honda has been phenomenal.

"And we've been treated as a partner as well as a customer. Having experienced different relationships with different engine manufacturers to have the ability to specify certain parameters within the engine and fully integrated with your chassis team, that's something that's completely new for us.

"I think we experienced to a degree with Honda, but now taking to a new level for the 2026 season."

Looking ahead, Horner eagerly anticipates the exciting challenges that lie in Red Bull's future as they venture into uncharted territory. The team's endeavour to establish themselves as a power unit manufacturer presents itself as a huge task, but one that will fill them with confidence.

"It’s exciting taking on a new challenge a start-up company taking on some iconic brands in Formula One as a power unit manufacturer. It's an enormous challenge, but one that, you know, we're relishing."
