The Mercedes driver has spoken out agains the FIA.

The British driver spoke out against the ruling during the Mercedes launch event of the W14 this morning.

Since the ruling was published in December, which states that drivers must get written consent prior to making any statements, fans have been curious to hear what Hamilton has to say.

The majority of drivers have now spoken out on this arguing that they are entitled to freedom of speech and F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali has sided with the drivers.

It is expected to be up for discussion at the F1 Commission meeting next week, however, Hamilton has already said nothing will stop him from speaking on the things that he is passionate about. He explained at the Mercedes launch:

“It [the FIA rule] doesn’t surprise me.

“But nothing will stop me from speaking on the things that I feel that I’m passionate about and issues that there are.

“I feel the sport does have a responsibility still to always speak out on things, to create awareness and on important topics.

“Particularly as we’re travelling to all these different places, and so nothing changes.”

The FIA have not set out what the consequences would be to the drivers should they not follow the ruling. Lando Norris has already said he would continue to speak out on what he believes in even if it incurred a fine.

The seven-time champion continued to explain that he understands there is a limit to what penalties drivers will take. He added:

“I think it would be silly to say that I would want to get penalty points for speaking out on things.

“But as I said to you, I’m still going to be speaking my mind.

“We still have this platform, there are still a lot of things that we need to tackle. But the support of Stefano has been amazing.

“I think all the drivers have been very much aligned on freedom of speech.”
