In a surprising move, Lewis Hamilton has announced that he will no longer be working with his dedicated performance coach Angela Cullen, who has been his trainer since 2016. The news comes just before the 2023 Formula 1 Saudi Arabian Grand Prix.

Cullen, who was a former player for the national hockey team in her native New Zealand, was a popular figure in the F1 paddock and had been a regular sight alongside Hamilton in recent years. As part of her role at Hintsa athlete coaching company, she had been providing coaches for many F1 drivers.

In an emotional post on his Instagram account, Hamilton thanked Cullen for her unwavering support, stating that she had been instrumental in making him the athlete and person he is today. He wrote:

"For the last seven years @cullen_angela has been by my side, pushing me to be the best version of myself. I am a stronger athlete and a better person because of her. So today I hope you’ll join me in wishing her the very best as she takes her next steps to pursue her dreams. Thank you for everything Ang, I can’t wait to see what the future has in store for you"

Cullen also shared her heartfelt message on Instagram, expressing her gratitude for the seven incredible years she spent working with Hamilton.

"Exactly 7 yrs ago on this day I was standing in the F1 paddock for the first time at the Australian GP. Today I’m excited to share I’m off on my next adventure.

"I am so grateful and blessed to have had this incredible journey in F1 and I know my story will continue. Thanks to the MB team, who have been my family for the past 7 years.

"And @lewishamilton you GOAT !! It’s been such an honour and pleasure to stand along side you I’m so proud of you and everything you have achieved.

"Thank you for supporting me, believing in me and showing me the limitless potential we all have within us. I am so excited to watch the next chapter for you. There’s nothing you can’t do.

"Don’t stop believing…Lives journey is one big wave ,Keep riding, Dream big, As Dreams do come true, Forever by your side.

"STILL WE RISE"

While the reason for their split remains unclear, it's evident that the two shared a close bond both on and off the track. In fact, Cullen accompanied Hamilton to the Bahrain test and race events that opened the 2023 season.

As one door closes, another opens, and it remains to be seen what Cullen's next project will be. Nonetheless, her contribution to Hamilton's career and life cannot be understated, and the F1 world will surely miss her presence in the paddock.

In the meantime, all eyes will be on Hamilton as he takes on the challenging Saudi Arabian Grand Prix without his long-time trainer by his side. Will he be able to secure yet another victory? Only time will tell.
