The Williams team has confirmed that Logan Sargeant has been withdrawn from the Azerbaijan GP sprint race this afternoon due to the damages to his car from the sprint shootout this morning.

Sargeant suffered from a horrific crash this morning at the very end of SQ1. Luckily for the American driver he had been able to put in a good time before the crash meaning he technically went through to SQ2, however, he was unable to leave the pits due to the wrecked car.

Williams FW45 2

The British team has been working flat out since the session this morning in an attempt to get the car ready for the sprint race. However, they have now confirmed to social media that Sargeant will not be participating. They posted:

"Logan’s car will not run in the #F1Sprint this afternoon despite the best efforts of the team.

"After receiving the FW45 back following the shootout, we worked flat-out on the car but there is not enough time to complete the repair.

"Subsequently we have withdrawn Logan from the Sprint.

"Gutted for Logan who has shown great pace with two Q2 appearances this weekend"

The team are now relying on just Alex Albon to get some points from the sprint race. The British-Thai driver put in an incredible performance earlier today so will be starting the sprint race from seventh position on the grid.

Hopefully the team will be able to get Sargeant's car ready for the grand prix tomorrow.
