Man United's Dominant Run At Villa Park Ends But Spurs' Struggles Against Liverpool Continue

Aston Villa 3-1 Manchester United

Aston Villa beat Manchester United in a Premier League game at Villa Park for the first time since 1995 on Sunday.

United had been unbeaten in 23 EPL visits to Villa, winning 15 and drawing eight.

But their dominant streak came to an abrupt end in Unai Emery's first game as Villa manager.

Emery saw his side make a dream start as Leon Bailey and Lucas Digne fired Villa into a 2-0 lead after just 11 minutes.

United, who were being captained by Cristiano Ronaldo, pulled one back in first-half stoppage time when a hopeful Luke Shaw strike deflected in off Jacob Ramsey.

Ramsey was credited with an own goal but he made up for it four minutes into the second half by scoring at the right end.

Villa's 3-1 victory saw them climb to 13th in the Premier League table. United remained fifth.

Tottenham 1-2 Liverpool

Tottenham are now winless against Liverpool in 11 straight games in all competitions.

Spurs last beat Liverpool in October 2017 when Harry Kane scored twice in a 4-1 win at Wembley.

Since then Liverpool have beaten Spurs eight times - including in the 2019 Champions League final - while there have been three draws between the sides.

Mo Salah scored both of Liverpool's goals in the first half on Sunday.

Ivan Perisic - playing up front for Spurs due to injuries to Son Heung-min and Richarlison - twice hit the woodwork before Spurs eventually got on the scoresheet through Kane with 20 minutes remaining.

But Liverpool survived persistent late pressure to claim three points and their first away win in the EPL this season.
