Five Arlington Renegades Players to Watch During Training Camp

With training camp underway in the UFL, there are some key players to keep an eye on for the Arlington Renegades.

The day has finally come. The eight UFL clubs reported for training camp on Friday. After a year or two of watching the teams, fans have a better idea of what they'll look like in 2024. Fans of the Arlington Renegades seem split on how this squad will fare, however.

Bob Stoops’ team went 4-6 in the XFL during the regular season last year, barely making the playoffs. They went on an improbable run to win two straight playoff games and won the XFL Championship.

It’s season three for Stoops and the second year for most of the players together on the team. Expectations for 2024 are mixed with some believing it was luck the Renegades won the title. Some believe Arlington is poised for another title run with quarterback Luis Perez back as the projected starter for the full season.

Everyone knows of the big returning stars on the team, with Perez, linebacker Donald Payne, defensive lineman Will Clarke, punter Marquette King, offensive lineman Garrett McGhin and more. There might be some that are flying under the radar that Arlington fans should focus on. Here are five players to watch out for during training camp.

Player Analysis

RB Morgan Ellison

Before his season-ending injury with the Seattle Sea Dragons last year, Morgan Ellison was one of the top backs in the XFL, rushing for 254 yards and one touchdown. The running back position is loaded with De’Veon Smith and Leddie Brown back, and Devin Darrington was added in the offseason as well. If injuries don’t hinder Ellison this season, he has a great chance of being one of the top runners in the UFL.

WR LuJuan Winningham

The stats may not stand out, but LuJuan Winningham has made some spectacular catches, giving hope that he can be a future top receiver with proper development. Winningham caught 11 passes for 158 yards and two scores in 10 games for Arlington. With his strong hands and ability to go up to make any catch, Winningham could see more playing time this season, despite more competition at receiver.

DE Willie Taylor III

Here’s another player where the stats aren’t crazy, but the impact he made when he was on the field was felt. Willie Taylor III was the first Renegade to sign with an NFL team last season, joining the Jacksonville Jaguars after racking up 16 tackles and four sacks in nine games. Taylor will get more playing time to demonstrate his pass rushing skills, making him one of the top defensive players on the team.

OT Bobby Evans

In all honesty, the Renegades didn’t need offensive line help as they already established one of the best in the XFL last year. Picking up Bobby Evans who has 12 NFL starts and a Super Bowl under his belt also helps. Evans is also familiar with Stoops after playing for him in Oklahoma, making this an intriguing player who could earn a starting job.

QB Lindsey Scott

A quarterback must be mentioned, even though Perez appears to be the guy. Lindsey Scott is special, possessing the gifts to be an eventual starter after setting an FCS single-season record 60 touchdowns in 2022 with Incarnate Word. If things go off the rails with Perez, Scott makes for an effective backup who probably should be a starter in the UFL.
