San Antonio Brahmas Sign Former Tulane Shutdown Corner

The San Antonio Brahmas signed former Tulane cornerback Thakarius Keyes on Sunday.

San Antonio Brahmas head coach Wade Phillips turned to the open market to find more talent to add to the roster. On Sunday, the Brahmas signed cornerback Thakarius Keyes to a UFL contract.

Keyes was a seventh-round pick of the Kansas City Chiefs back in the 2020 NFL Draft. He has played for eight teams in his NFL career including the Indianapolis Colts, New England Patriots, Chicago Bears, Houston Texans, Atlanta Falcons, Baltimore Ravens and Cleveland Browns. His career NFL stats are nine tackles in 13 games with eight of the games with the Chiefs.

Keyes starred at Tulane from 2016-19, playing in 40 games. He posted 95 total tackles, 19 pass deflections and two interceptions.

It’s been a transformation of a roster for the Brahmas as Phillips brings in new players. Looking at the secondary, San Antonio is filled with cornerbacks with plenty of NFL experience including Darius Phillips, Teez Tabor, Quincy Wilson, Kevin Toliver, Mac McCain, Ryan Lewis and Gavin Heslop. Keyes will have his work cut out for him to make the team, but if he can excel in special teams, he has a chance.

The Brahmas open their season at home on March 31 against the D.C. Defenders.
