CIF San Diego Section releases updated return-to-play timeline for high school sports
The CIF San Diego Section released an update on Thursday night detailing when several high school sports can return to play. You can view the full section update here.
Here are the key takeaways:
SWIM & DIVE MOVES TO SEASON 1
Swim & Dive falls under the purple tier, allowing it to begin under the current restrictions.
The move allows multi-sport athletes the opportunity to also participate in Boys and Girls Water Polo (Season 2, Orange Tier).
FEB. 1 START DATE
The San Diego Section selected Feb. 1 as the official date to begin practices in Season 1 Purple Tier sports (Cross Country, Swim & Dive).
Schools and districts may elect to start their seasons at a later date.
SEASON 1 SPORTS
Season 1 sports are allowed to begin practicing once their sport is within one tier level of their assigned tier. Season 1 sports include Badminton, Competitive Cheer, Field Hockey, Football, Girls Volleyball, Gymnastics and Roller Hockey.
No competitions are allowed while a region is under a "Stay at Home" order.
SEASON 2 SPORTS
Purple Tier start dates
Girls Golf: Feb. 8
Boys Golf: Feb. 15
Boys and Girls Tennis: Feb. 15
Track & Field: Feb. 15
Red Tier start dates
Baseball, Girls' Lacrosse, Softball: March 13 (contingent upon "Stay at Home" order being lifted across entire Southern California region)
Orange Tierstart dates
Boys and Girls Soccer, Boys Lacrosse, Boys Volleyball, Boys & Girls Water Polo: Feb. 22 (will begin once county reaches Red Tier)
Yellow Tier start dates
Boys and Girls Basketball, Competitive Cheer, Boys and Girls Wrestling: March 13 (will begin once county reaches Orange Tier)
NOTES
- No athletic competitions can begin until the point the current "Stay at Home" order is lifted for the entire Southern California region.
- Student athletes may only participate on one team during the same time or season.
