Cathedral survives upset attempt by Lawrence North in Class 6 sectional semifinal

INDIANAPOLIS – The Cathedral Fighting Irish survived an upset attempt by Lawrence North on Friday night thanks to Danny O’Neil, Carson Johnson, Jaron Tibbs and the Irish’s high-powered offense.
O’Neil tossed four touchdown passes, Johnson ran for 226 yards and two scores and Tibbs caught two touchdown passes as Cathedral defeated Lawrence North 44-35 in a Class 6 sectional semifinal game at Arlington Middle School.
Cathedral (8-1), the No. 3 team in the SBLive Indiana Power 25 rankings, advances to face Lawrence Central (5-5) in the sectional championship round next week.
Montez Jones passed for 276 yards and a touchdown and ran for 93 yards and two scores. Ali Richardson added two touchdown runs for Lawrence North, which finished its season at 4-6.
Johnson’s 25-yard touchdown run in the second quarter gave Cathedral a 24-21 lead going into halftime.
Lawrence North outscored Cathedral, 14-13, in the third quarter to trim the deficit.
The Irish helped secure the victory with an O’Neil touchdown pass to Tibbs in the fourth quarter – the second scoring connection between the pair on the night.
