Here are the candidates for the SBLive Michigan High School Athlete of the Week.

Read through the nominees and cast your vote. Voting will conclude Sunday at 11:59 p.m. and the winner will be announced Wednesday, December 27.

Greg Lawson, Davison

Junior guard Greg Lawson showed why he’s a top player in the state with his performance in an overtime win over Detroit U Prep, 89-82. Lawson would finish the game posting a career-high 44 points. 

Merritt Alderink, Zeeland West

Senior forward and Indiana State commit Merritt Alderink had a big performance despite Zeeland West’s 66-57 loss to North Farmington. Alderink finished with a game-high 31 points. 

David Shillinger, Ludington

Senior David Shillinger would post a school record 45 points to lead Ludington in a win against Muskegon Oakridge, 64-56. 

Jonny Ingalls, St. Ignace

Senior Jonny Ingalls had a dominant performance for St. Ignace in their win over Rudyard, 65-60. Ingalls would post a double-double as he finished with 40 points while grabbing 14 rebounds. 

Trenton Taratuta, Hillman

Senior guard Trenton Taratuta posted his third double-double of the season as he finished with 37 points and 13 rebounds along with eight assists and two steals to lead Hillman in a 68-49 win over Rogers City.

Mia McGregor, Mio

For the second consecutive week, freshman Mia McGregor shined as she notched a career-high 52 points to lead Mio over Hillman, 56-49

Lily Zeinstra, Byron Center

Senior Lily Zeinstra had herself a performance for Byron Center in their win against Jenison, 54-36. Zeinstra would finish the game with 33 points. 

Megan Zeitz, Dansville

Senior guard Megan Zeitz finished with 32 points, nine steals, four rebounds, and two assists to help Dansville knock off Perry, 54-26. 


Olivia Keller, Battle Creek Academy

Senior center Olivia Keller posted a phenomenal performance for Battle Creek Academy to help them to a 44-13 win over Will Carleton Academy. Keller posted a double-double as she finished with 11 points and 30 rebounds. 

Averie Zinn, Genesee

Sophomore guard Averie Zinn was doing it all for Genesee to lead them to a win over Atherton, 60-32. Zinn finished the game with 36 points, nine steals, seven rebounds, and six assists. 

Benjamin Lavalley, Marysville

Junior Benjamin Lavalley finished with three goals and three assists for Marysville as they defeated Utica Ford United, 8-5. 

Grant Stocker, Bishop Foley United

Senior forward/defender Grant Stocker would notch four goals for Bishop Foley despite falling to North Oakland, 7-5. 

Nick Elizarov, Bloomfield Hills

Senior forward Nick Elizarov chipped in four of Bloomfield Hills’ nine goals to help the Black Hawks to a 9-1 win over Lake Orion. 


Fisher Gurney, Grosse Ile

Senior forward/defender Fisher Gurney finished with a hat trick and more as he scored three goals along with two assists in an 8-0 win over Brownstown Woodhaven. 

Zach Jaakkola, Jackson Lumen Christi

Junior goalkeeper Zack Jaakkola finished with 33 saves and zero goals scored against him to help Jackson Lumen Christi to a 7-0 win over Big Rapids. 

Abbi Wildfong, Mancelona

Nominated by her wrestling coach, Joe Johnston, Wildfong is "a student, Team Captain two years now, She represents Mancelona Ironmen Wresting like a Captain should. She motivates, pushes and understands like a captain does." Wildfong is a two-time state qualifier.
