A skydiver has died of his injuries after a pregame accident at the Musket Bowl in Tennessee on Friday night.

The man was flown to a hospital via helicopter Friday night, and the annual rivalry game between Daniel Boone and David Crockett high schools in Jonesborough went on after a delay.

“Our deepest sympathies go out to the family of the injured skydiver that has passed away,” Washington County Schools Superintendent Jerry Boyd told WVLT 8 in Knoxville. “We ask that everyone keep the family in their thoughts and prayers as they deal with the loss of a beloved husband, father and grandfather.”

An apparent parachute malfunction caused the skydiver to plummet at an unsafe speed, and he crashed into a field just outside the stadium's fence.

Boyd told wkrm.com that mental health services will be available at Daniel Boone and David Crockett high schools on Monday.
