SBLIVE'S BASEBALL TOP 25

1. Buford: 1-0

Last week: 1

Buford opened its season with a dominant 8-0 win over St. Pius X. The Wolves will have another chance to flex their muscles against Shiloh on Friday, which will be the first region series of the season. 

2. Houston County: 3-0

Last week: 3

Houston County has scored 30 runs in three games after a thrilling victory over Perry in extra innings, and the Bears swept a series vs. Archer. 

3. Parkview: 1-1

Last week: 2

Parkview ran up the score in its first game of the season against Mountain View, but then failed to generate the same offense and lost to Lassiter 8-3. 

4. North Oconee: 3-0

Last week: 9

North Oconee shot out of the gate red-hot, with wins against top 25 opponents Marist and North Hall.

5. Loganville: 1-0

Last week: 5

Loganville opened its season with a win over Winder-Barrow and will travel to undefeated Mill Creek on Monday. 

6. Allatoona: 3-0

Last week: 6

Allatoona went 3-0 in the Georgia Dugout vs. Lakeside, Union Grove and Heritage. 

7. Marist: 1-1

Last week: 4

Marist faced two top 25 opponents in its first two games. The first game of the season, the War Eagles had phenomenal pitching and defense but the bats couldn’t get hot so they fell to North Oconee 1-0. Marist was able to pick up the offense in its next game and defeat Blessed Trinity. 

8. Lassiter: 2-2

Last week: 10

Lassiter broke its two-game losing skid with a huge win over previous No. 2 Parkview. 

9. Mount Paran: 3-0

Last week: 14

The Eagles have scored 33 runs in three games and in their last game hung nine on a very talented Benedictine team. 

10. Pope: 4-0

Last week: 15

The Greyhounds started their season off with two big wins against McEachern and Roswell. Pope swept its two-game series vs. Effingham County and scored 26 runs in the process. 

11. Woodstock: 2-1

Last week: 11

Woodstock’s two-game win streak came to an end after it failed to erase an early deficit against Brookwood. 

12. Carrollton: 3-2

Last week: 12

Carrollton scored 24 runs in its first two games but lost one of them. In their most recent game the Trojans got a big win over then-top 25 opponent Troup County. 

13. North Hall: 2-1

Last week: 13

North Hall captured two wins vs. Hebron Christian and Chestatee but wasn’t able to do the same versus a really good North Oconee team. 

14. Wesleyan: 1-1

Last week: 16

Wesleyan’s bats took some time to warm up and it showed in the loss to Lovett, but they heated up in a win over Greater Atlanta Christian.

15. Lambert: 2-1

Last week: 17

Lambert has been in tight contests in all three games played so far. Lambert had a two-run victory over Etowah, a one-run loss to Woodstock and a walk-off win over North Gwinnett. 

16. North Paulding: 1-2

Last week: 7

North Paulding won its first game against Lovett, but suffered two straight losses afterward, one to Lowndes and the other to Starr’s Mill. 

17. St. Pius X Catholic: 0-2

Last week: 8

St. Pius has struggled coming out the gate, as its offense has put up one run in two games against Buford and Cherokee. 

18. Greenbrier: 2-1

Last week: 18

Greenbrier started off the season with two straight wins before falling to Savannah Christian. 

19. Pace Academy: 1-0

Last week: 19

Pace Academy completed a shutout win over Westminster in its only game thus far. 

20. Benedictine: 2-1

Last week: 20

Benedictine scored wins against East Paulding and Richmond Hill in the South Georgia Invitational but lost to Mount Paran. 

21. Denmark: 1-0

Last week: 21

Denmark got very familiar with the base paths as it put up 11 runs in a win over Dunwoody. 

22. Lovett: 3-1

Last week: unranked

The Lions had to match up against three top 25 opponents, including the reigning 5A champs in Starr’s Mill. Their only loss came against previous No. 7 North Paulding. 

23. Walton: 3-1

Last week: 23

Aside from a shutout loss to North Springs, Walton has been scoring in bunches, including scoring 13 runs vs. Alexander. 

24. Lowndes: 3-1

Last week: 24

Lowndes had one of the toughest opening weeks out of any team in the state. The Vikings had to face off against Valdosta, Starr’s Mill, North Paulding and Lovett and came out of that gauntlet with three wins, with the only loss coming against Lovett. 

25. Savannah Christian: 3-0

Last week: unranked

Savannah Christian started the season with a blowout win over Jenkins and followed that up with close wins over East Paulding and Greenbrier.
