Oklahoma high school basketball playoffs rescheduled once again; games now begin Saturday
By Buck Ringgold
Once again this week, the winter storm that gripped most of the state has forced another postponed day for the state high school basketball playoffs.
Instead of Friday, all state basketball playoffs will now resume Saturday. The games were to have started Thursday but were moved to Friday earlier this week due to the inclement weather statewide.
But Thursday afternoon, the Oklahoma Secondary School Activities Association announced that the basketball playoffs have been pushed back yet again, this time to start on Saturday.
In Class 5A and 6A, regional tournaments begin on Saturday with the girls semifinals at 6:30 p.m. and 8 p.m., with the locations staying the same. The boys regional semifinals are now at 6:30 p.m. and 8 p.m. on Monday, also at the same locations.
The girls regional championship games will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday, while the boys regional title games are at 7 p.m. Wednesday, also at the same locations. The 5A and 6A area tournaments will remain as originally scheduled, starting on Thursday, March 3.
Regional tournaments for classes 2A through 4A also start on Saturday, with four games in one session, starting at 4 p.m. and continuing at 5:30 p.m., 7 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. All locations remain the same.
Then, it will resume Monday and Tuesday with two separate sessions, 1:30 and 3 p.m. along with 6:30 and 8 p.m.
In classes A and B, area tournaments tip off on Saturday with one session, starting at 4 p.m. and continuing at 5:30 p.m., 7 p.m. and 8:30 p.m., with locations remaining the same.
Tournaments then resume on Monday with two sessions, at 1:30 p.m. and 3 p.m., as well as 6:30 p.m. and 8 p.m. Those will conclude on Tuesday with one session, games at 6:30 p.m. and 8 p.m.
With the A and B area tournaments moved back another day, it also forced another alteration for next week's A and B state basketball tournaments.
Both the A and B state tournaments will now be a three-day event, starting on Thursday, March 3. There will be eight games played at Oklahoma City's State Fair Arena, plus four games at two different sub-sites, Mustang and Washington.
Then, all A and B semifinal games will be on March 4 at State Fair Arena, with the four championship games the following day. Brackets for the A and B state tournaments will be officially announced on Wednesday.
