The Oregon high school football season is scheduled to begin Thursday, Aug. 31 — 58 days from today. As we count down the days until kickoff, SBLive Oregon will give you one significant number per day.

58

Combined touchdowns, passing and rushing, that Sheldon senior quarterback Brock Thomas accounted for in 2022.

Thomas ran for 17 scores for the Irish of Eugene, including four in an OSAA Class 6A second-round win over Lake Oswego.

He passed for 41 touchdowns, the most in 6A or 5A last season. Thomas had a career-high six touchdown passes in Week 8 against Grants Pass, which came in a seven-game streak with at least four touchdown passes per game.

Passing and running don’t encompass everything Thomas did for the Irish. In Week 8 of 2021, he blocked a game-winning field goal try by Roseburg to preserve an Irish win that turned out to decide the conference title. And in Week 2 of 2022, he caught a touchdown pass on a trick play in a win over West Linn.
