SAN ANTONIO — Mattie Dollar scored a game-high 24 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to lead Newcastle to a 48-32 victory over Turkey Valley on Saturday morning in the Texas (UIL) 1A state girls basketball championship at the Alamodome.

Mya Cabrera finished with 10 points and 10 rebounds for the Bobcats (35-1). 

It marked the first state championship for Newcastle in any sport.

Resse Cruse led Turkey Valley (37-3) with 18 points while Trinity Schlueter had nine points and a team-high 11 rebounds.

Newcastle jumped out to a 13-4 first period lead.
