That is why Jackson High School two-way standout Iyanla "Ice" De Jesus is Scorebook Live's 2019 all-state softball player of the year.
De Jesus, a Coastal Carolina signee, led the Timberwolves to back-to-back Class 4A state championships, slugging 11 home runs with 41 RBI while dominating in the circle as arguably the state's most dominant pitcher -- 19-2 record with a 0.95 earned-run average, striking out 292 batters in 132-plus innings.
Ken Simpson is Scorebook Live's coach of the year. In his second season as head coach, Simpson led Garfield High School to its first state softball title in the school's 99-year history. The Bulldogs beat Yelm, 10-4, in the Class 3A state finals at the RAC in Lacey.
